Local students shine at Westgate Shield

Our first ever Westgate Shield, held on 19 October, was a great success. Year 5/6 boys and girls teams from Spotswood Primary School, Wembley Primary School, St Margaret Mary’s Primary School and Yarraville West Primary School battled across the day to be the first to have their names etched into the perpetual shields.

Congrats to Yarraville West, who finished on top in both the girls and boys competitions, but with some stiff competition along the way – and a lot of fun!

We thank all the schools, teachers and parents involved who agreed to come and have a go, which helped to make it such a great day. The final placings were as follows.

Girls Boys
Yarraville West Yarraville West
St Margaret Mary’s Wembley
Wembley Spotswood
Spotswood St Margaret Mary’s

There were many other people who helped make the day possible so we thank them all too for playing their part:

Cricket Victoria / Melbourne Renegades – especially Rohail and Matt (via SEDA) for running the day
Jen Robbins and Sharon Schwarz for running the canteen
Jason Dunham and Stuart Redpath for event support
Our event sponsors The Yarraville Club and Topline Embroidery
Graham from Hobsons Bay City Council and our pitch guru Len Robbins Snr for set up and ground prep
Beth Robbins for lolly bags
And all other Club members who assisted on the day

And there’s no way this day would have happened without our juniors coordinator Leonard Robbins Jnr, who masterminded the whole thing.

Congratulations everyone! We’re looking forward to the next one already.
