Back to Spotty Day – Sunday 21 January from 12pm

This season, we’re celebrating six – yes, 6! – premiership anniversary milestones on one big day at Spotswood Cricket Club. And all past and present players, members and supporters are invited to join the party!

Join us on Sunday 21 January at the clubrooms from 12pm, with BBQ and refreshments available throughout the afternoon.

Our first XI men’s team will be battling it out against Tullamarine in a one day clash, and our women’s team will be facing off against Geelong in a T20 bash, so there’ll be plenty of on-field action to entertain as well.

Help us celebrate our past Premierships, which stretch back as far as 30 years ago:

  • 1987/88 North A Premiers 30 years
  • 1997/98 VWCA District 2nd Premiers 20 years
  • 1997/98 WDCA U/14 Premiers 20 years
  • 2007/08 Senior Central 2nd Premiers 10 years
  • 2007/08 Nth C2 Premiers 10 years
  • 2007/08 Nth C3 Premiers 10 years

Come on down and catch up with your former team mates and let the memories live on.

Wanted: coaches, team managers, scorers for our juniors

Could you be the one? Our under 11s need a coach, and we reckon the right person is out there in our club community.

No experience needed! Your willingness to learn on the job and to help our juniors thrive is what matters.

What’s in it for you? A free coaching course with Cricket Australia, plus resources to help you and ongoing support from the club. It’s great experience to put on your CV, you get to inspire the next generation, and help the club to develop at the same time.

Training is Thursday 5:30-6:45, games Friday nights 5:30-8pm, and we’ll help you get a Working With Children check if you don’t have one already.

We also still need some team managers and scorers for our juniors – training and assistance provided for you with these positions too.

SNR 2nds Grand Final Winners

Congratulations to our 2nd XI team on taking out the Senior Seconds Grand Final against Airport West during a 4 day battle. With Airport West winning the toss and batting, they appeared to be on track to post a good score at 3/100 after 40 overs.  A run out after the tea break caused a massive batting collapse with 7 wickets falling for just 23 runs. N.Bartol the stand out bowler with 5/13 off 10 overs.

Spotty’s reply started off shaky with the early loss of wickets and closed the first days play at 4/28.  The start of the second days play didn’t get any better with the loss of 3 wickets to see us at 7/70. Enter in Mark “Scorpion” Cranwell who battled hard with N.Bartol to build a 63 run partnership which got us over the 1st innings target. In trying to push for a decent lead, the final 3 wickets fell in a few overs, giving us a 12 run lead. Spotswood 1st innings total of 135. (N.Bartol 45, M.Cranwell 24)

Airport West had a better second innings effort with the bat and managed a total of 192 after 91 overs.

Spotswood in their final hit for the year would have to make the decision of chasing down the 181 target or face out 97 overs.  Spotswood chose the latter. With one of the most mature innings you will ever see from a 17 year old, Our future, Jack “SOS” Fitzharris batted out 70 overs for 28. M.Short would had to have broken some form of cricketing record facing 70 balls for a duck (0). Captain Daniel McNamara had a great knock and batted some valuable time for 45 runs.

At 4/92 with 24 overs remaining Spotswood was able to hold out after a little scare when 3 fell. N.Bartol was able to hold out unbeaten on 16 with S.Hoare the other not out batsmen. (D. McNamara 45, J.Fitzharris 28)
